Cindy Coutant is an artist and researcher based in Geneva. Her work examines the material and libidinal relations of technology: its flows, its regimes of penetration, extraction. In her films, installations and augmented readings, technology reveals itself as slobbering, pornographic, cannibalistic, excremental or collapsed. Here, we meet gremlins, snails, tardigrades, Ariel the Little Mermaid or spy robots ; all minor figures who speak from the margins of the techno-industrial imaginary to accelerate the break with the decaying hand and mind of civilisational patriotism.
Her thesis, entitled Disarming the Grand Narrative of Technology: High-Tech Sexo-Semiotics and the Grammar of the Future,(Désarmer le grand récit de la technologie. Sexo-sémiotique high tech et grammaire du futur) explores the sexual unconscious of technologies. It approaches the anxiety of bodies and the indeterminacy of affects as crucial issues for capitalist industry, but also as the foundation for another technological narrative.
